Today, we’ll discuss the advantages of keeping your social circle modest.

You may believe that in today’s society, having a larger social circle equates to more popularity, satisfaction, and opportunity. The truth is that having a broad social circle might really hinder your efforts to succeed in life.

Allow me to introduce you to the four most important benefits of keeping your circle social circle small:

#4 Genuine friendships

We can have many acquaintances but only a few true friends.

It’s one thing to know a lot of people, but it’s quite another to make genuine friends who will always be there for you.

In the past, I used to believe that the more people I befriended, the higher my social position would become over time. Oh, wow, did I make a terrible blunder!

In actuality, you should focus on one or two close friendships rather than a large number of acquaintances who are only interested in you if you can reciprocate with something. True friendship is what matters when it comes to forming a strong support network, which is so important if you want to make the most of your life.

#3 Less drama

Let’s face it, wherever people go, drama almost always follows. I’ve always loathed how much backstabbing and hypocrisy took place in vast social circles. People physically fake it until they make it, then opt to leave because they no longer require the company of others. You know precisely what you’re getting yourself into by having one or two close pals, and you considerably reduce your chances of being stabbed in the back by individuals you believed you could trust.

#2 Improved productivity

The biggest problem with having a lot of friends is that you end up spending most of your energy and resources on keeping them happy and satisfied.

What matters at the end of the day is your future. What matters is where you are in five or ten years. Having one or two true friends provides you with the consistent support you require to make the most of each day.

Sure, it’s lovely to be wanted and admired by so many people at first. That feeling of fulfillment, however, does not continue indefinitely, and as soon as it passes, you will regret not focusing on those one or two friendships that could have meant more in the long run.

#1 More time to pursue your goals

Goals.  Some people are serious about them, others just use them to boost their ego and their image.

The sad reality is that the vast majority of people in your life want you to fail. They may claim to have your best interests at heart and want to see you succeed, but in reality, only a small percentage of people actually support their friends in their pursuit of success.

People who lack goals and direction in life are always the ones that are guilty, in my opinion. They are insecure about their own lives, and they transfer those insecurities onto everyone around them.

Having a small group of friends not only allows you to devote more time to your goals, but it also allows you to recognize the individuals who genuinely want you to succeed and will support you no matter what.

So many people in today’s society use friendship as a status symbol, without fully understanding what the word “friendship” means.

Nobody wants to go through life alone, and I’m not advocating for it in any way. What I’m trying to get over to you is that you don’t need a ton of friends to be amazing. You don’t need other people’s approval to reach your full potential in life.

Focus on the friendships that actually help you grow as a person, in my opinion. Choose pals who will stick by your side even when the going gets difficult. Choose friends who will stoke your fire.
